Name: Layce Whitworth Home Town: Pocatello, Idaho Birthday: February 7, 1968 Layce was raised around horses and cattle all his life. His father, Steven, was a calf roper, steer wrestlerand rode rough stock in the local rodeo circuit. Layce entered his first rodeo at the age of 6 in the Power County Lil Buckaroo Rodeo. He was entered in the calf riding and rode his calf. He was entered in every Jr Rodeo there was. First it was calf riding then on to steers. He learned a lot from his dad but unfortunately Steven passed away when Layce was 10. At 14 Layce rode his first full grown bull. He rode in many different rodeo associations. He took many trophies home. Layce always remembers having a strong attraction to country music from the time he was 4 or 5. He taught himself how to play the guitar by ear. "I remember my mother was ironing clothes and listening to the radio. I would come out of my room with this little Mickey Mouse guitar and sing to her along with the radio, poor mom, although she never told me to be quiet. Country music, rodeo's, and being a ranching cowboy has always gone hand in hand with me all my life." "My first musical influence was Marty Robbins. He was my hero. Moe Bandy also had a strong influence on me. Then Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and especially George Strait. I am often told I look and sound like George. Sorry George. You are the king. You all have helped me get to where I am today. Thank you all." Layce released his first album called "Stole em Fair n Square". It was produced by LD Productions. It is a collection of 8 cover tunes. It is a mixture of rodeo, beer drinkin' and toe tapping songs. There is something for everyone on this album. Available now. Layce just returned from Nashville where he recorded some new origional material with Jim Allison. Jim is the Presiden of Aria Records of Nashville. Jim has worked with Billy Ray Cyrus, LeAnn Rimes, Buddy Jewel, Linda Davis and has co-written many songs for many artists and has a number one hit with Reba McEntire.
